Description
Centre for Geogrphic Information Systems is a research centre of the University of Rwanda founded in 1999 with the support from the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund International. If offers trainings and techical support to organizations and government institutions in terms of GIS and other Remote Sensing applications. CGIS is an ARBMIS since 2009 when it signed the Albertine Rift Biodiversity Data Sharing agreement and since then, it has been working closely with ARCOS and other ARBMIS partners to implement this agreement.

Description

CRSN is a natural sciences research centre established on 1 July 1947 by Prince Charles of Belgium with the mission to promote, implement and coordinate the study of the sciences of man and nature in DRC and Rwanda-Urundi. CRSN organizes its activities in four research departments namely the Department of Environment, Department of Documentation, Department of Geophysics, Department of Nutrition and Department of Biology.

The herbarium at the centre has been working together with ARCOS to digitize its specimens and mobilized data under this scheme is published onto this portal along with high-resolution images of the scanned specimens

The Goma Volcanologic Centre is a scientific Research Centre under the ministry of scientific research of DRC. Its mission is to monitor the two active volcanoes in the Virungas (namely Nyiragongo and Nyamuragira). OVG is a branch of Centre de Recherche en Sciences Naturelles de Lwiro under its geophysics department, volcanology section.

The Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund International is dedicated to the conservation and protection of gorillas and their habitats in Africa. The fund is committed to promoting continued research on the gorillas and their threatened ecosystems and to providing education about their relevance to the world in which we live. In collaboration with government agencies and other international partners, DFGFI also provides assistance to local communities through education, health, training and development initiatives

ARBIMS was developed by the Albertine Rift Conservation Society (ARCOS Network) in collaboration with various partners and with support from The JRS biodiversity Foundation (Albertine Rift Biodiversity Portal), The John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation (Great Lakes Portal), the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (African Mountains Portal) and the Critical Ecosystems Partnership Fund (EIA Portal).
